Doctors Remove Life Support as Family Says Farewell to Newborn, Then He Starts Breathing
A family prepared to say goodbye as doctors went to remove life support from their sick baby boy. But miracle baby Karson Jax Hough defied everyone’s expectations as he started breathing on his own! When Chelsea Hough gave birth to Karson Jax at 36 weeks, things took a terrifying turn.
Although the delivery was quick and the boy’s heart was strong during the delivery, everything changed when he entered the world.
Suddenly, Carson’s heart stopped. After placing the child on his mother’s breast, his heart started again. But soon his heart rate dropped again and doctors discovered a number of health problems. They put Carson Yak on life support and ran a series of tests and evaluations.
Many questions surrounded the cause of this boy’s illness, but doctors ultimately determined that the only option was to remove life support.
“The only way to describe what happened is that this beautiful boy suffered two very rare traumatic conditions that are unrelated to each other. One cannot be identified due to the cause,” wrote the boy’s heartbroken nana, Lisa Huff.
Doctors suspected bleeding in the boy’s left temporal lobe, along with a diagnosis of nonketotic hyperglycemia (NKH). NKH is a rare genetic disorder that causes the accumulation of glycine in body tissues and fluids. And after much prayerful consideration, Chelsea and her family decided to take off life support and allow Carson to find his healing in heaven.
Doctors are stunned as they remove life support
The family asked for prayers as they prepare to be taken off life support. And as they began to say goodbye to Carson Jax Huff, something incredible happened. The boy defied the odds and started breathing on his own!
“Today we witnessed a miracle!!” wrote Lisa Huff on Facebook. “We were given 10 minutes after ICU and ventilator withdrawal and were told he wouldn’t be breathing on his own and to expect his heart to stop in those 10 minutes… Well God and Carson had other plans!”
When doctors took Carson off the ventilator, he started breathing and his heart rate and oxygen levels stabilized. He started breathing, swallowing and swallowing – all the things doctors said he would never be able to do. And the blessing made the little one’s family very happy.
“I’m not sure why I thought we weren’t so undeserving of a miracle.. and I’m not sure how long we’ve had it, but now we have it. And now we will get it,” said Lisa.
This miracle baby is surprising everyone with its progress. And while only God knows his future, Lisa Hough and Chelsea Hough are enjoying every minute of being blessed with sweet Carson Jax.
The miracle baby is getting stronger
Carson still has a lot to overcome. But every day brings unexpected miracles. Weeks after doctors took the family off life support, the miracle baby was still surviving, growing stronger and defying expectations. The doctors even released him from the hospital and sent him home with his family!
Carson continued to thrive at home. He has grown to a healthy weight, and his heart rate and oxygen levels remain stable. His glycine levels dropped dramatically which is amazing. And while this precious baby still has a long way to go, she has progressed beyond anything the doctors thought possible!
