One thing most celebrity marriages have in common is that they don’t last long, so hearing of celebs who managed to stay together for years and are still going strong leaves us in awe. Such union is the one between Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick, both very famous names in the world of film.
Bacon and Sedgwick first met when she was 12 years old. According to her, she and her brother went to see a movie Bacon starred in and met after. Of course, she was way too young back then and didn’t think much of that encounter.
Some ten years later, their paths crossed again while working on the film Lemon Sky, but it didn’t look like they were going to end up together because according to Sedgwick, she didn’t really find him attractive. He, on the other hand, was totally smitten with her from the beginning.
Speaking to Wide Open Country, the actress revealed, “He definitely wasn’t my type. In fact, I vividly remember looking at his butt when he walked away after we first met and thinking, Well, I guess some girls like that.”
However, they eventually started dating and tied the knot in 1988. The couple has two children together, son Travis Sedgwick Bacon, who is a solo musician, and daughter Sosie Ruth, who is following into her parents’ footsteps and is pursuing a career in the film industry. She’s best known for her portrayal of Skye Miller in the Netflix teenage drama 13 Reasons Why.
Bacon and Sedgwick have been married for 34 years, but they are still as affectionate for one another as day one. The Mystic River star uses every opportunity to remind his wife just how much he loves her. “I don’t know how he does it, but he always makes me feel like I’m the most beautiful woman in the room – the only girl in the room,” Kyra told People.
However, when it comes to the key to long and happy marriage, Bacon told Entertainment Weekly, “Whatever you do, don’t listen to celebrities on advice on how to stay married.” It’s probably the love and the respect they have for one another that makes their union so solid.
“He is so honorable. He is so ethically true. He has high moral standards, and he doesn’t lie and he doesn’t cheat—and I find that sexy!” Sedgwick told Good Housekeeping back in 2012. “I am constantly in awe of Kevin’s levelheadedness and his lack of ‘crazy.’”
During an appearance on the U.S. TV show “Finding Your Roots,” the couple learned they were ninth cousins, but that didn’t really affected their relationship in any way. According to Kyra, she did feel a bit unsettling but it was okay because although they appeared to be cousins, they were distant ones.
After investigating Kevin’s family ancestry, the show discovered that King Edward I, who fought William Wallace, was his 22nd great grandfather. Kevin joked that his ancestry did not get enough attention and said that as long as they are not first cousins, it’s all right.
With the ongoing pandemic, Bacon and Sedgwick are spending most of their time at home. She said she was doing some writing, and revealed that the two “are watching a lot of stuff and we’re reading. We continue to read stuff. I continue to read. I’m trying to touch into my work on a daily basis, for sure.”
One thing is certain, these two make one of the cutest Hollywood couples. Don’t you agree?
